Kamayirese Jean Damour elected leader of Rwanda Leather value chain association.

Rwanda’s leather industry, after realizing that the merger would add value to their products through joint production and supply chain, has transformed the former Kigali Leather Cluster into the Rwanda Leather Value Chain Association.

The event took place on Tuesday, April 22 in Kigali, where leather manufacturers from allover the country gathered for a meeting to elect the new leaders and committee of the Rwandan Leather Manufacturers Association. The meeting was also supported by PSF.

Following a well-conducted and transparent election, Kamayirese Jean Damour was elected to lead the organization, having previously headed the Kigali Leather Cluster.
Jean Damour Kamayirese, in an interview with MontJaliNews, said that they have reached this point thanks to the president of Rwanda who has chosen a more progressive one.

“First of all, we would like to thank the President of the Republic, because before, people did not value the skin, but after our problem reached him, he listened to us and some measures were taken which made us take steps to ensure that in the event of a disaster, we will also be there and thus increase the value of the leather.” He said.

He goes on to add that the reason they decided to change the Kigali Leather Cluster was that many thought it only worked in Kigali but now when you hear of Rwanda Leather Value Chain Association, you will understand that it is a large organization and it works all over Rwanda.

Mr. Jean Damour Kamayirese concluded by thanking everyone who attended that special meeting and addressed the challenges being faced by this board saying that they will seize if there’s continuous cooperation without compromising the manufacturers ability to put their skin on the line.

PSF representative and Head of Department of Health and Social Services Leon Pierre Rusanganwa, told all the leather product manufacturers who attended the event that if they want to have a bright future in the leather profit-sharing industry, they must unite.
“Without the PSF, many things would not have been possible, and if it had not been for the many collaborations that we see today, we would not have achieved much, so you are encouraged to continue working together.” He said.
